Take the Long Way Home (Supertramp 1979)

Sunday the 7th was dull in the morning but dry, so we decided to go for a walk in the afternoon. The countryside around the gite was very pleasant. Rolling farmland with loads of trees and deep river valleys. In fact lovely walking country. We covered 6 or 7 miles, on what tuned out to be a nice Sunday afternoon, about half of it on country roads and only saw 1 moving vehicle.

Monday was grey and cool and wet and so apart from a quick trip to the supermarket to top up on wine we stayed in. Tuesday was similar but wetter so, before packing, we went out to lunch in Loudeac.

Looks naff doesn’t it! Actually we had a lovely lunch. The place was on the list of recommended restaurants locally and it fully deserves it’s place.

Wednesday and it was home time. Because I’m daft, I had forgotten that when I booked our crossing I couldn’t get a night crossing back from Caen and so I had booked a crossing back from Le Havre. I had therefore planned a visit to the D Day beaches which, when we realised we had to go up to Le Havre, we quickly swapped for a visit to Honfleur.

Honfleur was lovely despite being the busiest place we had been to all holiday.

We then drove up to Le Havre, parked up and went looking for a meal.

We found another nice neighbourhood cafe and had tea on the pavement watching the harbour and the loads of people out wandering in the early evening sun, and we got to see our boat come in.

Great 3 weeks in France but could have been so much nicer if the weather had been better.
