The Joy of Sport: Afternoon Pints and Fond Memories

I’m having a sporty week or so. Andy and I had one of our afternoons at Fylde Rugby yesterday. It’s a good oportunity to have a couple of pints and a natter while watching live sport that we don’t really understand and where the result doesn’t really matter to us. It’s nice to see Fylde win, but if they lose, well, the pints and the natter have made the sfternoon worthwhile. I have to say that, much as I love my little grandson Josh (A LOT), it’s nice to be able to have a conversation with Andy without Josh leaping on my head or poking Lego Star Wars models up my nose!

Having said all that, it was a good win for Fylde yesterday, 35-13 versus Hull. They stay 4th in the English National League 2 North, a long way behind Leeds Tykes.

Today is the Carabao Cup Final between Liverpool and Riyadh Newcastle United. I well remember the FA Cup Final of 1974 between these two teams when I actually threw up on the morning of the match because of my nervousness. Thankfully I have grown out of that and now, although I really want Liverpool to win, it won’t make me lose sleep if they don’t. The same score as 1974 would be good.

Then, to round it off, next Sunday we head to exotic Chorley to watch big grandson Nick do his grading for his second Dan. I don’t argue with Nick any more.
