A Sunny Sunday Stroll around Lytham

There’s nothing quite like waking up on a Sunday to blue skies and sunshine. It feels like an invitation to get outside, so that’s exactly what we did this morning. We went for a stroll around Lytham. We set off from our flat on Woodlands View and headed out for a loop that took us through some of our favourite corners of Lytham.

First Stop: Lytham Hall

We love walking through the grounds—whatever the season it always feels calm and looks beautiful, even if we’ve been there countless times. The trees were glowing in the morning light, and there were just enough people around to give it a friendly buzz without feeling busy.

From there we walked up Balham Road to Green Drive, which is one of those paths where you can just let your mind drift. It’s leafy, peaceful, and perfect for walking at an easy pace.

The River Front

After a bit of road walking over Saltcotes railway bridge we reached the river front near Victory Boulevard, and suddenly everything opened up. There’s something about the estuary that always makes me stop for a moment—the wide skies, the fresh air, the sense of space. The tide was in, there were boats out on the River Ribble. We looked across the estuary to Southport. As we walked around the sea wall, beyond Southport, North Wales was just visible on the horizon. The promenade was looking gorgeous in the sunshine, and of course we passed by the windmill—such a familiar landmark.

Granny’s Bay

A little further along was Granny’s Bay, which by this point was getting fairly busy with cyclists, dog walkers and families out for a stroll. It’s official name is Stanner Bank, but Granny’s Bay is the name that this popular bit of seafront and beach usually goes by. Supposedly, it was named after an older member of the Clifton family who used to bring her grandchildren down to play.

From Granny’s Bay we turned back towards home, heading up Woodlands Road and through Ansdell village.

The walk was about 10.5km, and it ticked all the boxes: greenery, history, sea air, and some of the best views in Lytham. Honestly, it was the perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday morning.
