Joy of Sport 3

Last weekend was the second sporting weekend in a row! England played 2 World Cup Qualifiers against the might of Albania (won 2-0) and the footballing giants of Latvia (won 3-0). But wasn’t there a time when football was an entertainment or am I just looking back with rose tinted specs? With the exception of Reece James’ free kick v Latvia these were 2 instantly forgetable matches, unless you happened to be related to one of the players.

Speaking of being related to competitors, my grandson Nick went for his Second Dan at Karate on Sunday and was brilliant. (See video obvs!)

For three weeks from the 18th of June, Heather and I were on holiday in France. As this period included the general election, we applied for postal votes which didn’t arrive before we left on holiday, meaning we could not vote. The results in our constituency, Fylde, were close. The Conservative candidate won but with…

  • Training Run/Walk

Just back from 14.6 mile (23.5km) training walk. A local one, so a bit flat, but enjoyable all the same. Both our new boots seem to be shaping up OK, although we’re both feeling the increased weight of the boots towards the end of the walk. Heather discovered while reading a book or forum or…

I’ve just seen Nana and Grandad’s photos of their day out yesterday and I don’t think it’s fair that I have to sit in class learning about Florence Nightingale while they go off enjoying themselves. I bet they had ice creams as well cos Grandad always has ice cream when he goes out for the…

  • Redemption Song

It’s been a tumultuous 9 days since I last posted. With the help of some British politicians, some American politicians and owners of social media along with some fairly ordinary people from, mostly, England, various collections of racists, right wing idiots and collections of people out for a fight have rioted in parts of the…

  • Meet on The Ledge

Another walk in the country on Saturday. This time in The Forest of Bowland from Slaidburn up to Stocks Reservoir and back. This is a beautiful walk which can be extended or reduced with several optional starting points. There were very few people about, presumably as the fine weather had sent everyone off to The…

  • The Ghost of Tom Joad

In the UK, we’ve managed to show some sense and get rid of the bunch of self serving, privately educated conservative politicians and replace them with a group of, hopefully, more effective, honest and moral leaders. With 2 cabinet members from the same Wigan Comprehensive school, at least we should be able to see an…
