Immigration Man

For three weeks from the 18th of June, Heather and I were on holiday in France. As this period included the general election, we applied for postal votes which didn’t arrive before we left on holiday, meaning we could not vote. The results in our constituency, Fylde, were close. The Conservative candidate won but with a majority of only 561, meaning practically the only splodge of blue in North West England is Fylde. We both felt dissappointed that we could not vote but pleased that the Labour Party won with such a huge majority.

However, the sight of our Prime Minister discussing immigration controls with the avowed very right wing, Georgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy makes me feel slightly sick.

There are a number of things our government have done or not done which I’m not comfortable with, but, given the mess the Tories left the country in, I’ll go along with difficult economic decisions having to be made (I think……… largely) but taking advice from a very right wing political party is definitely a step too far.
