Watching the River(s) Flow

Friday morning was terrible! We had torrential rain. Went to the market in nearby Montrichard and got drenched.

However!

It cleared up. Went to Chenonceau. You know those places that you’ve seen umpteen times in photos and you think it might be an anticlimax to see them in real life? Well this really wasn’t one of those.

It bridges the River Cher. Apparently Catherine de Medici evicted the widow of the king of France so she could live in it. Chateau and gardens were both beautiful.

Saturday was a bit grotty again but we had a meal booked at a nearby restaurant for the  evening.
Lovely meal, lovely surroundings and in the middle of the village music festival.
We love French markets and had been advised to do the Sunday Market in Amboise.
A great morning! Half of the oysters were mine!
We then headed for the chateau and a view of the weekend’s second river, the Loire.
Both the Cher and the Loire are very high due to the large amounts of rain they’ve had over the last few weeks.
More later.

The Conservative candidate won but with…

So, I had this bright idea. I thought I’ll take a series of photos of the big chestnut tree at Lytham Hall over a number of weeks to illustrate the onset of autumn and then winter. The original idea was for 1 a week. The first (Autumn on the way) was published on October 10th…

As a relative newcomer to Lytham, I don’t know whether this happens every year but, for the last 2 years Blackpool Zoo have offered a 40% discount for residents of FY postcodes during March. So, always with an eye out for a bargain, we had a day out at the zoo today. I’m not entirely…

I know I said no more politics until 2026, but I just had to reprint this from the Letters page of The Times a couple of days ago. Hope I don’t get arrested. Apparently I’m in the right demographic. Sir, The home secretary proposed to ban Palestine Action on the ground of “unacceptable criminal damage”…

It’s been a tumultuous 9 days since I last posted. With the help of some British politicians, some American politicians and owners of social media along with some fairly ordinary people from, mostly, England, various collections of racists, right wing idiots and collections of people out for a fight have rioted in parts of the…
