A New England (?) – Kirsty McColl

English identity is fraying says Jenrick

Mr Jenrick says that our English identity is being destroyed by record immigration. This immediately raises 2 questions.

Who has been in charge for the last 14years? Oh yes…… Robert’s mates in the Conservative party.

What is English identity and are we asking the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish to adopt it, whatever it is?

Perthaps English identity includes taking backhanders from property developers. Unlawful approval of Westferry housing development

During the 2024 United Kingdom riots, Jenrick said police should have “immediately arrested” protesters shouting Allahu Akbar (meaning “God is Great”), prompting condemnation from several Muslim MPs who argued that Jenrick linked all Muslims to extremism. Is this English identity?

The right of British politics have a habit of trying to promote the English way of life, without ever trying to explain what it is. My way of life is hugely different to my sons’ way of life and I’m sure it’s different to Mr. Jenrick’s. The way of life in the north of England is different to the more affluent south. Jenrick promotes an idea of Englishness while completely disregarding Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland despite being a member of the Conservative and Unionist party

But wait. I hear you cry what about balance in this post.

Well what about Labour politicians taking “gifts” from supporters to pay for clothes, specs, tickets to Arsenal, especially after criticising the Tories for doing similar (but on a much larger scale and then lying about it for as long as possible). I think it’s totally stupid of them. I used to have a games teacher at Ormskirk Grammar School, who, when he saw us do something wrong in rugby practice, would penalise us for unintelligent play. Phil Downing, where are you when we need you!? Have Starmer, Rayner and Reeves no PR team who will tell them that what they are doing will look terrible to the general public, particularly having just cut the winter heating allowance for most OAPs? Is it any wonder so many people think that all politicians are in it for the freebies?
